MACKAMIDE® LME is a humectant that is used in skin and hair care formulations. Unlike glycerin, MACKAMIDE® LME provides a light conditioning and non-tacky feel to the skin and hair. It is similar to other molecules that comprise the Natural Moisturization Factor (NMF) found in human skin by having the ability to bind water in the stratum corneum. When formulated in leave on skin care MACKAMIDE® LME increases the water holding capacity on the stratum corneum in the same way as NMF to allow for long lasting moisturizing effects. In hair care, MACKAMIDE® LME will provide added moisture to improve the manageability of dry hair.
